  • Privacy Act aligned

Most employment problems start with a missed step.

Not bad intent. A missing agreement, an unrecorded break, a hazard nobody logged.

3,070

ERA applications. A missed step in a disciplinary or restructure can become one.

3,070 applications were lodged with the Employment Relations Authority in 2025, up 11.8% on 2024.

5 years

WorkSafe duties. Notifiable events must be reported fast, and incident records kept for 5 years.

$1.8 billion

Leave and pay errors. Holidays Act mistakes are costly to fix, and the Employment Leave Act is changing the rules.

Health NZ has budgeted $1.8 billion to repay staff underpaid under the Holidays Act, and has spent more than $191 million fixing it.

Everything your team needs. In one place.

  • Digital employee records with encrypted IRD and bank details
  • Onboarding checklists that block activation until paperwork is done
  • Document vault with expiry alerts for visas and certificates
The employee list: each person's role, status, manager and start date

Compliance you can prove.

When someone asks 'can you show me?', you can.

  • An audit log nobody can edit

Sign-ins, exports, documents, expenses, pay-rate exceptions and who viewed a person's record are written to an audit log with who, what and when. The database refuses to update or delete an entry.

  • Compliance rules with review dates

The employment and safety figures the platform quotes, including thresholds, retention periods and notice rules, carry their source and the date a human last checked them. The register says when a check is overdue, before a figure goes stale.

The minimum wage and break rules are kept separately by Ask Your HR, as dated rule sets, so a past week is always assessed against the rules of its own date.

  • A minimum-wage check, before the rate is saved and again before payroll

A pay rate below the minimum is flagged the moment it is saved and recorded as an exception. Before a payroll export goes out, the rates in it are checked again; a below-minimum rate has to be acknowledged, and administrators are alerted.

It warns and records. It never decides which minimum applies to a person. That stays with you and your adviser.

  • Employment Leave Act readiness

The coming leave law accrues in hours against standard hours. A report shows whose contracted-hours records are ready, whose are missing, and whose actual pattern disagrees with their contract.

A readiness check on your records. Leave under the new Act is not yet calculated here.

  • Expired contractor insurance prevents site approval

A contractor company whose recorded public liability cover has expired cannot be approved onto a site until the certificate is renewed.

Checked when they are approved, from the expiry date recorded on the contractor company they are linked to.

  • Ask AI

NZ employment basics and how-to questions, answered in plain English inside the platform. It sees the question typed and our guidance, never your staff records. Conversations are not stored.

General guidance, not legal advice. When the answer depends on your situation, it points you to an adviser.

Got an HR question? Just ask.

Ask AI answers NZ employment basics in plain English inside the platform.

  • ‘What breaks is someone on an 8-hour shift entitled to?’
  • ‘How do I record a near miss?’
  • ‘Can I pay out annual leave?’

General guidance, not legal advice. For your situation, talk to an Ask Your HR adviser.

The Ask AI panel in the platform: asked what breaks an employee gets on an 8-hour shift in New Zealand, it answers two paid 10-minute rest breaks and one unpaid 30-minute meal break, suggests when to take them, cites Employment Relations Act 2000 s69ZD and s69ZE, says where breaks are logged in the platform, and ends that this is general guidance, not legal advice
A real answer, from inside the platform.
